Create what sets your heart on fire and it will illuminate the path ahead.

In order to create what sets your heart on fire,
you must first know what sets your heart on fire.
For me it’s music. Music sets my heart on fire; music and rock stars. Several years ago, I was having a terrible time getting going on my art. I was chatting with my sister who reminded me that I am often inspired by music. She suggested I turn on some music and go where it took me. That suggestion turned into a gallery show of art quilts titled Layers of Memories all about rock stars and their music.

Music takes me to a place I love to be. I like lots of different music, but I love Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Tom Petty… And David Bowie, Beck and Jack White, and Radiohead and Muse… Well, this list could go on and on. Oh, and Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones and Jethro Tull…

My point is that when you find something that sets your heart on fire, you are very lucky indeed. Follow that thing, whatever it is, and enjoy it. Be with it, create with it, dance to it. Research it and learn every thing you can about it. I have a friend who loves nature in all its infinitesimal glory. That is what she creates!

I have learned that when I create something for someone else’s pleasure or approval it always comes up short. The pieces that really speak to me and to others are the pieces that come straight from my flaming heart.

Let your passion be your guide and you will never be lost.
